“Junior”- Elston was just a puppy when he was adopted from us. During his trial period, he was due for his third round of shots with our vet clinic. At this vet visit, they heard a murmur that had not been there before and we scheduled an echo to get to the root of the problem. At that point he was thought to have a variety of issues going on with his heart and was given a grim prognosis. His adopted family was crushed with the news, especially just having lost their previous dog, but their hearts were committed. The financial commitment was their only concern….so, we asked if they wanted to be his forever foster and they absolutely agreed. Well, as the months went on, his heart improved…because you know, sometimes there are miracles that occur when love is involved. Eventually there was no heart murmur at all and he was allowed to come off of all meds. But, because the future was so unknown and he would need regular echos and cardio evals, we kept him in the program and as fate would have it, this guy has needed our support for various oddities along the way that have required surgeries and now physical therapy, so I am glad we did. He is loved, is busy raising his human puppies, and living every day to his fullest thanks to this program.

Gatti Parker (aka Leo) is one of our younger forever fosters. As a tiny Yorkie, when he arrived he was barely a young adult and all seemed well. Things changed as his liver began to suddenly fail and after a lot of biopsies and studies, we had a generalized diagnosis of hepatitis. His condition would wax and wane, some days scarier than others. But with persistence from his foster family and our vet staff he found his way back to wellness. However, we knew his liver issues would be a constant in his life requiring meds and monitoring and piled up expenses and that the stress of changing homes would cause a set back, so he remained in the program as a forever foster. He is currently doing fantastic and loves it when his family brings home another tiny foster to make friends with on occasion!!!

Nimzy Roosevelt is a 2 year old female mix breed who currently weighs about 30 lbs and will be a medium sized dog as an adult. Nimzy uses a cart, not because she is paralyzed, but because due to a birth defect (she has had extensive surgery), she has spasms in the back legs and a cart enables her to go on walks and get out and about for proper socialization and exercise. She is able to walk and be mobile indoors and on soft surfaces like grass or carpet. Nimzy is an amazing spirit. She loves life, loves playing with her canine friends and is also great with cats. Nimzy needs another playful canine in her home to keep her active and happy.

Pomoppossum is officially ready for adoption!!!! For those who don't know, Pomoppossum is urinary and fecal incontinent due to hemivertebrae. He has no tail because of this, as well. But of all the incontinent dogs we've ever had... he was the easiest....and his foster mom this go around (who also has plenty of incontinent experience) agrees. He is easy to manage a belly band on and well, you all know the story of his poops...he just shoots a tiny hard little poop ball randomly which might sound strange, but in our world, it just sounds easy!!!!
We are so excited for him to find his perfect home!!! We wanted to wait since it had been 2.5 years since his previous adoption, to see who this boy has grown up to be, and here is what we know.....
He is not the wild child he once was! He still loves to play, enjoys his toys, and absolutely need a canine playmate, he loves to play! He is fun but also laid back. He is a great snuggler with his human as well. For all his character and wit, he has grown into a well behaved little man!!!
Pomopposum is up to date on shots and preventatives and is microchipped. His adoption fee is any donation you feel appropriate. Our adoption fee is set to a level to make adoptions happen. They do not cover our costs. Thank you for your generosity and interest in our dogs!
All dogs adopted locally through SGDR receive a free six-week session of obedience classes and a lifetime of behavior support through our Project REWARD program with trainer Charlotte Blake.
